'The Herd series was inspired by the Australian Snowy Mountain Brumbies, our wild horses. It’s been my experience that horses form very deep and life long bonds, and can communicate with each other over long distances, so they are always together on some level. They also grieve long and deeply with the loss of a friend or herd member.

I’ve seen two of my horses grieve over the loss of a neighbouring mare, and also witnessed the devastating loss of my mare’s foal, and just how long she grieved for. This painting aims to capture the depth of feeling that horses can have for each other.'
