Dutch Equine Art Fair 2026

Living Horse Museum, Amsterdam
The fourth Dutch Equine Art Fair was a curated exhibition of contemporary equine art, held at the Living Horse Museum in Amsterdam. The fair brought together 30 international artists working across painting, photography, drawing, sculpture and mixed media.
The fair takes place at De Hollandsche Manege, the oldest riding school in the Netherlands and home to the Living Horse Museum. Initiated and organised by museum directors Elsbeth Bos and Vincent Valk, the Dutch Equine Art Fair provides a platform for contemporary equine art within this historic setting.
For the fourth consecutive edition, Joyce Ter Horst was invited to curate the exhibition. Developed in close collaboration with the museum, the curatorial work focused on artist selection, coherence and the relationship between individual works and the wider presentation.
Set within this context, the exhibition approached equine art beyond subject alone. The focus lay on each artist’s visual language, how the work holds together as a body of work, and how it contributes to a broader contemporary context.
Live ateliers and artist talks
The accompanying programme included live ateliers with Mirelle Vegers, Tony O’Connor, Cath Driessen and Sjoerd Blokker. Working in the arena and historic stables, the artists gave visitors an opportunity to follow paintings and drawings as they developed and discuss their working processes.
Photography talks and Q&As with Matthew Seed and Andrea Zachrau explored light, authenticity and individual approaches to equine photography. Melody Hames, The Horse Barber, contributed another perspective through demonstrations of creative horse clipping.
New for 2026, Start Your Collection presented a curated selection of smaller original works, offering an accessible introduction to collecting contemporary equine art.
Full Circle: James Way, A Tribute to His Life and Work
Presented in the Ruiterkamer, Full Circle was a special tribute exhibition developed in collaboration with the artist’s son, Lion Way. Reproductions of selected paintings and material from the family archive introduced visitors to James Way’s life and artistic world. It was the first exhibition dedicated to his work since his death in 2014.
