Van Muze tot Meesterwerk
Exhibition
29 – 30 June 2024
Het Gagelgat Farm Museum, Soest
Curator and organiser
This exhibition brought together twelve international artists at Het Gagelgat Farm Museum in Soest.
Developed in collaboration with Stichting De Paardenkamp, Van Muze tot Meesterwerk formed the third edition within an ongoing curatorial collaboration, building further on the relationship between artist, horse and place.
I curated and organised the exhibition, overseeing the selection of artists, the development of the work, and the presentation within the site.
Curatorial role
My role focused on deepening the working method established in previous editions, while refining the exhibition as a coherent whole.
This included:
-
Selecting artists working across different disciplines within contemporary equine art
-
Guiding the development of work following the Inspiration Day at De Paardenkamp
-
Structuring the exhibition within the spaces of Het Gagelgat
-
Ensuring consistency across a diverse range of materials and approaches
Curatorial perspective
Working from direct observation remains central to this series. The process begins before the exhibition, during time spent at De Paardenkamp, where artists engage with the horses and their environment.
The focus of Van Muze tot Meesterwerk was to move from initial inspiration towards a more resolved body of work.
This meant working with how artists translate observation into form, material and concept, while maintaining a clear connection to the source.
It also meant bringing together different disciplines in a way that allows the exhibition to read as a whole, rather than as separate contributions.
Outcome
The exhibition was presented within the historic setting of Het Gagelgat, combining a range of media including painting, photography, video and three-dimensional work.
It brought together an international group of artists and further developed the ongoing curatorial trajectory, in which each edition builds on the process of observation, interpretation and presentation.
