Mara’ee Bahrain
International exhibition

5 – 12 December 2025
Curatorial and artist liaison

This international exhibition brought together contemporary equine artists within a new cultural context in Bahrain.

Developed in collaboration with Pico Bahrain, the project positioned equine art within a broader international and cultural framework.

I was invited to take on the role of curator and artist liaison, overseeing the selection, development and presentation of the participating artists and their work.

Curatorial role

My role focused on shaping the exhibition as a coherent whole.

This included:

  • Selecting and guiding artists in relation to the context of the exhibition

  • Ensuring clarity and consistency across the body of work presented

  • Supporting the translation of individual practices into a shared curatorial framework

  • Acting as the point of connection between artists, organisers and the exhibition space

Curatorial perspective

Bringing equine art into an international setting such as Bahrain requires more than transport and display. It asks for a clear understanding of how the work functions outside its usual context.

The focus of this project was to position the work in a way that could hold its own within a different cultural environment, while maintaining the integrity of each artist’s direction.

This meant working not only with individual works, but with how they relate to one another, how they are read within the space,

and how the exhibition as a whole communicates.

If you recognise the importance of positioning your work within a broader context, it may be time to work with a curator.
