Natuurlijke Verwondering
Museumnacht 2024
Photo exhibition Arnd Bronkhorst
Living Horse Museum, Amsterdam
Curator
This exhibition presented a selection of black-and-white photographs by Arnd Bronkhorst, centred on the relationship between humans and the natural world.
Developed as part of Museumnacht 2024, the project invited visitors to engage with nature not as an idealised image, but as something direct, present and unresolved.
Curatorial role
As curator, I shaped the selection and presentation of the work, focusing on clarity, rhythm and the relationship between the individual images. The aim was to create a coherent viewing experience that allowed the work to unfold gradually, rather than presenting it as a series of isolated photographs.
Curatorial perspective
The exhibition moved away from polished or romanticised representations of nature.
Instead, it positioned the work as an encounter. One that raises questions about how we relate to the environment and how that relationship is reflected back to us.
By working with restraint in both selection and presentation, the exhibition created space for reflection without directing the viewer towards a single interpretation.
If you recognise the importance of how work is positioned and presented, it may be time to work with a curator.
